Roy Carpenter's Beach is a community of summer cottages off Cards Pond Road in Matunuck, Rhode Island. The group of 377 cottages are spaced close together on numbered rows east and west of a path leading to the ocean. The community offers a unique, family oriented atmosphere. Most cottage owners live at the beach all summer and many cottages are passed down within their families, from one generation to the next.   To maintain our family atmosphere, no renting is allowed in our community.  Also, visitors and guests of cottage owners are not allowed to bring their own dogs or pets on the property.

History
The cottages at Roy Carpenter's Beach were first established in the years following the Hurricane of 1938. The late Roy Carpenter initially opened the property for daily parking, later expanding to allow overnight stays for visitors with trailers and tents. Over time, the area evolved into a vibrant community of individually owned cottages situated on leased land.

For decades, the land was owned and operated by members of the Carpenter family. On October 29, 2025, the Roy Carpenter's Beach Association (RCBA) successfully purchased the land, marking a historic transition to community ownership for the 377 cottage owners.

Our Beach
Roy Carpenter's Beach is a 1/4 mile long stretch of seashore along the Atlantic ocean. Located on the south coast of Rhode Island, the beach is a wonderful retreat, whether it be a summer vacation or a weekend getaway, for the community of cottage owners throughout the summer. Beach-goers enjoy sunbathing, swimming and spectacular views of Block Island and Point Judith.

Office Hours:

Thursday through Monday 9 AM - 3 PM (Closed Tuesday & Wednesday) Our office will be closing for the season on 09/01/25. All business after that date will need to be conducted through email or by phone.
